Dutch is a West Germanic language native to most of the Netherlands and the northern half of Belgium (the Belgian dialect is called Flemish). It is spoken by about 23 million people as their first language, while another 5 million people have Dutch as their second language.
In writing, it uses the Latin alphabet.
