Rome is the capital city of Italy, in the southern Mediterranean.
History
Rome is known for its ancient Republic and Empire; The empire surrounded the Mediterranean Sea. During this time, the city of Rome was home to many famous historical figures, like Julius Caesar and Augustus.
Modern city
The current city is around the Tiber River in the central part of Italy. The Roman Catholic Church is based in Rome.[1] Important sights in Rome include the Vatican and the Colosseum, along with other Roman remains, like bridges.
Climate and tourism
According to Rome.net, "Rome has a Mediterranean climate with cool winters and generally hot summers," making it "good for visiting the city." The same source says that temperatures tend to reach their highest in July and their lowest during the first two months of the year.[2] The website says that Rome has good weather for tourism year-round; however, it "recommend[s] going in spring or autumn."[2]
