Brexit is the process in which the United Kingdom is, as of 2019, exiting the European Union.

History

The United Kingdom became part of the European Union in 1973[1] and as of May 2019 the United Kingdom remains in the European Union. However, following a referendum which took place on June 23, 2016,[1] which showed that the majority of United Kingdom residents wanted to leave the EU, the United Kingdom began the process of leaving the European Union. As of April 2019, the process of leaving the EU has been delayed. In May 2019, Theresa May, the British prime minister, said that she was planning to resign.[2][3]
