Martin Place station (Sydney)
Martin Place station is a railway and future metro station serving Sydney's central business district. The railway platforms are located on the Eastern Suburbs railway line. Once the metro opens, the station will be served by the Sydney Trains T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, the NSW TrainLink South Coast Line and the Sydney Metro service currently known as the Metro North West Line. The station is named after the pedestrianised street that sits above the concourse.
History
The station opened on 23 June 1979 as part of the opening of the Eastern Suburbs line from Central to Bondi Junction.[1] Lift access to the concourse and platforms was added in April 2011.[2]
Two new platforms are being constructed for metro services. There will be a direct connection between the existing platforms and the new platforms.[3]
