The station was constructed as part of the Sydney Metro Northwest project and opened with the rest of the project on 26 May 2019.[2] It is named after the nearby Tallawong Road.[3] During planning and the bulk of the construction period it was known as Cudgegong Road, which runs parallel to Tallawong Road.
