Bertill.(french Louis-Adolphe Bertillon) was a French statistician. He was born in Paris on April 1st, 1821. Having started the medical profession, he worked as a doctor for several years. After the revolution of 1870, he was appointed inspector general of charitable institutions. He was one of the founders of the Paris school of anthropology and was appointed professor there in 1876. His Demographic Figure de la France (1874) is a capable statistical study of the population of France. He died in Neuilly on February 28th, 1883.

His son Alphonse is known for the invention of anthropometry, Demographic figurée de la France (1874)
