Marang House (marang: ray of the sun, Setswana) is a privately-run non-profit medical center located in Northcliff, a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It was founded in 1998 by the Dutch physician Pieter Ernst. The center was continued by Ernst's son, Pieter Ernst jr., after Ernst was murdered at his family farm on 29 July 2005.[1]
Mission
Ernst had peviously been working in government hospitals after his emigration to South Africa in 1989. There, he noticed that many children became institutionalised in these hospitals, lacking a proper home environment. The purpose of Marang House is to provide these children with a proper home as well as around-the-clock medical care.
Marang House accepts seriously ill children from hospitals in and around Johannesburg and Soweto.
