The Democratic Party is a political party in the United States. The main opposition party to the Democrats is the Republican Party; consequently, the United States has a two-party system.
History
The party was founded in 1828.[1] Andrew Jackson, Franklin D. Roosevelt (who was President from 1933 to 1945), and John F. Kennedy were all Presidents from the Democratic Party. Historically, the party dominated in the Southern United States, but with political parties in the United States changing positions on important issues, its voter base has moved away from this region.
