Venlo is the largest municipality in North Limburg and, after Maastricht, the second largest in terms of population of the Dutch province of Limburg. The municipality (also called large-Venlo) includes not only the city of Venlo, but also the district Blerick with the villages Boekend and Hout-Blerick, district Tegelen with Steyl, the village Belfeld and, since 1 January 2010, the former municipality Arcen and Velden with the villages Arcen, Lomm and Velden. On 1 May 2012, according to its own website, the municipality had 99,895 inhabitants.[1]
