Shoah [1] means catastrophe[2], to describe the annihilation of a third of Jewish people by the Nazi before and during the WWII, rather than the English word Holocaust from Gr. whole burnt, refering Septuagint to sacrifice by fire as distinct from the Hebrew term for sacrificial offering, olah.
