Rome is the capital city of Italy, in the southern Mediterranean.

History

Rome is known for its ancient Republic and Empire; The empire surrounded the Mediterranean Sea. During this time, the city of Rome was home to many famous historical figures, like Julius Caesar and Augustus.

Modern city

The current city is around the Tiber River in the central part of Italy. The Roman Catholic Church is based in Rome.[1] Important sights in Rome include the Vatican and the Colosseum, along with other Roman remains, like bridges.
