he was a Dutch physician (born Claes Pieterszoon) Claes Pieterszoon changed in 1621, because of his love for tulips, his name Nicolaes Tulp; a flower that was very popular at that time among the members of the regent class. From 1637, however, he no longer wanted so badly to be associated with the tulip because he did not want to be associated with the so-called tulipmania
