Georges Guillain, together with Barré and Strohl, described two cases of self-limiting acute paralysis with peculiar changes in the cerebrospinal fluid

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is defined as a group of clinical syndromes with acute onset of peripheral neuropathy – axonal or demyelinating – secondary to an immune-mediated process[1] Plasma exchange has been widely used in autoimmune neurological diseases and is the standard treatment for myasthenia gravis crisis and Guillain-Barre syndrome[2]
