Greyhound racing is a sports event where greyhounds are raced around an oval track, chasing a mechanical rabbit. Often gambling takes place similar to horse racing.

Banning of greyhound racing

In many states dog racing has been banned due to animal welfare concerns. Florida recently banned racing and tracks were closed.

Greyhound rescue

Greyhounds from tracks that have been closed after animal welfare activism, as well as greyhounds that are too old or ill to continue racing or who have not won money for their owners and face euthanasia are adoptable through greyhound rescue organizations. The Lexus Project began in compassionate response to this need.
