The name of the mill is derived from the former inhabitants, the Goofers family. The wooden mill burned down in July 1911, after which it was replaced by a stone, octagonal Frisian corn mill. It was blown up by the Germans during the Second World War in November 1944. After that the mill was not rebuilt anymore
